When this period operated
Period 8 of the 玄空 (Xuan Kong) Flying Star cycle ran from 2004 to 2023. Buildings constructed during this 20-year window carry a permanent Period 8 anchor in their natal period chart.
The ruling star: 八白 (Eight White)
Each of the nine periods is governed by a different star number from the Luo Shu (洛書) sequence. Period 8's ruling star is 八白 (Star 8 Eight White), of the earth element, classically associated with the northeast palace and the 艮 trigram.
八運:八白左輔星當令。主富貴、田宅興旺、財丁兩旺、福澤綿長。
Classical Xuan Kong reading for Period 8.
Buildings constructed during Period 8
Period 8's ruling star (八白) is the 左輔星 (left-helper star), classically the most wealth-supportive register in the modern nine-star cycle. Buildings anchored in Period 8 (2004–2023) span Singapore's boom-era property cycle: most contemporary mass-market HDB BTO flats, the first wave of Period-8 condominium development, and many of the recent en-bloc redevelopments. The period-8 register is favourable across wealth, real-estate appreciation, and household stability registers.
Modern relevance: reading Period 8 buildings today
The dominant majority of currently-occupied Singapore residential property is Period 8 anchored — most BTO flats from 2004–2023, most mass-market condominiums of that era, and many of the resale apartments in active circulation. For Period 8 properties read against current Period 9, the natal Period 8 wealth-anchor remains structurally favourable, but the current-period overlay shifts which sectors of the home receive the active flying-star register. 2027 Annual and 2028 Annual pages cover the year-by-year overlay.
The natal Period 8 anchor stays with the building permanently. To read a Period 8 home in the current Period 9 (2024–2043), the natal period chart is overlaid with the Period 9 transit pattern — that interaction determines which sectors of the home are activated each year. 2027 Annual Feng Shui and 2028 Annual Feng Shui cover the year-by-year overlay.
Why generic Period 8 guidance fails
The period anchor is one layer of the feng shui reading, not the whole reading. The household's actual experience also depends on the building's 阳宅三要 configuration (door, master bedroom, stove octants — see FS-8: Singapore HDB & Condo for the door×master matrix), the occupants' personal BaZi and Zi Wei Dou Shu charts, and the year-on-year flying-star transits. Generic per-period guidance can name the natal anchor and the most-watched register; it cannot tell you which patterns activate for your household. Master Sean Chan’s blog post on the chart-house interconnection covers this multi-layer reading.
