Feng Shui Flying Star Calculator

A Xuan Kong Flying Star chart maps three numbers into each of the nine palaces of a property: the mountain star (山星), which governs people and health; the facing star (向星), which governs wealth and opportunity; and the period star (運星), the base plate for the twenty-year era the building belongs to. Together they describe how energy is distributed through a specific building, which is why the facing direction and the construction period are both required.

No, and the distinction matters. Eight Mansions derives four favourable and four unfavourable directions from your personal Ming Gua number, so it is about the person. Xuan Kong Flying Star casts a chart for the building from its facing direction and construction period, so it is about the property. They are different schools and answer different questions; a tool that does one is not doing the other.

The facing (向) is the direction your property looks out toward, which in most homes is the side with the main door or the largest run of windows. The sitting mountain (坐) is always the opposite and is derived automatically. The 24 mountains divide the compass into fifteen-degree arcs, so a reading taken with a compass will fall cleanly into one of them.

Periods 7 (1984–2003), 8 (2004–2023) and 9 (2024–2043) — the eras a standing building is likely to belong to. The period is set by when the property was built or last substantially renovated, not by the current year.

Treat it as the generic layer. A real audit reads this chart against the actual floor plan — where the doors, beds, stoves and desks sit inside those nine palaces — along with the occupants' own charts. The nine-palace chart tells you the shape of the energy; it does not tell you what to move.
