BaZi Day Master × Auxiliary Star Matrix (日主神煞) 日主神煞 · The 100 Day Master / Shen Sha Configurations

The 100 classical configurations of the BaZi 日主神煞 (Day Master × Auxiliary Star) matrix — 10 Day Masters × 10 commonly-watched shen sha (Heavenly Nobleman, Peach Blossom, Academic Star, Robbery Killings, and 6 more). Each cell describes the classical register when a specific shen sha appears in the chart of a specific Day Master.

The 100 Day Master × Auxiliary Star configurations

This is the master directory for the BaZi Day Master × Auxiliary Star (神煞) matrix. Shen sha are classical BaZi auxiliary stars derived from the chart’s pillars; their presence in a specific chart modulates the Day Master’s register, the Ten God configurations, and the chart’s overall reading. The 100 configurations in this matrix describe how each of the 10 commonly-watched shen sha reads when present in the chart of each of the 10 Day Masters.

Voice constraint: these pages name each configuration (e.g., 甲日主見天乙貴人) and describe its register; they do not teach the procedure for identifying which shen sha land in a specific chart (the derivation rules), or how to read shen sha against pillar placement and luck pillars. For chart-aware reading, book a BaZi consultation; for self-study, use the free BaZi Calculator; for learning the shen sha doctrine in depth, the BaZi Bootcamp covers it from beginner through intermediate.

⚠️ Why a generic shen sha guide is not enough

A complete shen sha reading layers four inputs:

  1. Whether the shen sha lands in the chart at all (derivation gating).
  2. Which pillar it lands on (year / month / day / hour) — determines life-domain.
  3. Modulation by the Ten Gods active on that pillar.
  4. The chart’s overall strength + Useful God + active luck pillar.

This matrix describes the first input. Use it as a classical starting reference, not a final reading.

The 10 commonly-watched shen sha

Each shen sha carries its own classical register and derivation rule. The cells below describe what each looks like when present in each Day Master’s chart.

天乙貴人 · Heavenly Nobleman

Auspicious

The most celebrated auxiliary star in BaZi — whoever holds 天乙貴人 attracts benefactors and timely assistance.

祿神 · Prosperity Star

Auspicious

祿 (Lù) literally means ‘salary’ — this star marks the Branch where the Day Master’s energy reaches full maturity.

天德 · Heavenly Virtue

Auspicious

天德 is derived from the Month Branch and denotes a quality of heavenly protection — useful in mitigating unfavorable stars.

桃花 · Peach Blossom

Dual Nature

The Peach Blossom star governs romantic appeal, social magnetism, and affinity with the opposite sex.

驛馬 · Flying Horse

Active Energy

The Flying Horse governs movement — travel, relocation, frequent change of environment, and dynamic career shifts.

文昌貴人 · Academic Star

Auspicious

文昌 confers scholarly aptitude, literary talent, and a refined intellect.

華蓋 · Canopy Star

Dual Nature

華蓋 carries a paradox — exceptional intelligence and artistic ability, yet often social isolation.

劫煞 · Robbery Killings

Dual Nature

劫煞 is one of the most misunderstood auxiliary stars — never read its name superficially.

魁罡貴人 · Dominant Authority

Powerful

魁罡 appears on specific day pillars only: 庚辰, 庚戌, 壬辰, 戊戌 — producing exceptional intelligence and a commanding presence.

天喜 · Heavenly Joy

Auspicious

天喜 generally signals celebratory events — marriage, births, promotions, and other positive milestones.

How to read this matrix against your own chart

  1. Plot the four pillars via the BaZi Calculator. The day pillar's heavenly stem is the Day Master.
  2. Note which shen sha actually derive from your chart. The calculator highlights the auxiliary stars present in your specific chart.
  3. Look up each present shen sha in the matrix above (under your Day Master). The cell describes its classical baseline register.
  4. Apply the four-input framework. Pillar placement + Ten God modulation + chart strength + luck pillar all modulate the baseline register.
  5. Book a chart-aware consultation via BaZi consultation to integrate the four inputs for a full reading.

Frequently asked questions

What are BaZi shen sha (神煞) / auxiliary stars?

Shen sha (神煞) are classical BaZi auxiliary stars derived from the chart's pillars via specific formulas. Each shen sha carries its own classical register: Heavenly Nobleman (天乙貴人) marks senior-mentor support, Peach Blossom (桃花) marks romantic and creative attraction, Academic Star (文昌貴人) marks scholarly aptitude, Robbery Killings (劫煞) flags risk in partnership and finance, and so on. Shen sha modulate the Day Master's register and the Ten God configurations, layering on top of the chart's structural reading.

How are shen sha derived from a BaZi chart?

Each shen sha has its own derivation rule based on the chart's pillars. Some are derived from the year stem (e.g., Heavenly Nobleman), others from the day stem, others from pillar combinations or hidden stems. The derivation produces a hit on one of the chart's four pillars (year / month / day / hour) when conditions match. The procedure for casting the chart and applying derivation rules is the chart-reading skill the BaZi Bootcamp covers; this matrix describes the configuration's register once it has been identified.

Why is the matrix 10 × 10 rather than 24 × 10?

Classical BaZi tradition recognises 24+ shen sha total, but ten of them are watched far more closely in mainstream practice: Heavenly Nobleman, Prosperity Star, Heavenly Virtue, Peach Blossom, Flying Horse, Academic Star, Canopy Star, Robbery Killings, Dominant Authority, and Heavenly Joy. This matrix focuses on those ten. The other 14 shen sha (Sun Star, Moon Star, Mourning Gate, Five Ghosts, etc.) are used in deeper consultation work and are covered in the BaZi Bootcamp.

Are shen sha more or less important than the Ten Gods?

The Ten Gods describe the structural relationships between the Day Master and the other heavenly stems — the chart's underlying skeleton. Shen sha layer on top, modulating the Ten God register with classical interpretive markers. A chart with strong Ten God structure but no auspicious shen sha reads as competent but unsupported; a chart with weak Ten God structure but multiple auspicious shen sha reads as supported but structurally fragile. Both layers matter; classical practice reads them together. Neither dominates.
