A Day Master that looks weak on the surface stems can be revealed as strong by hidden-stem support; the opposite case is equally common. The full reading layers stems, branches, hidden stems, and the seasonal modifiers together — not the Day Master in isolation.
The Useful God (用神) determines what the chart needs. Classical doctrine identifies a Useful God — the elemental register the chart is short on or over-supplied with — that determines which industries restore balance and which exacerbate the imbalance.
