六合 (Branch Hexes, Liù Hé) — “Six Harmonies”. Six pairs of branches that bind together cooperatively when present in a chart. The classical 六合 register indicates partnership, mutual support, and harmonious cooperation.
BaZi 六合: classical interaction patterns
Branch hexes (六合) describe pairs of earthly branches that bind cooperatively when present together in a chart. Unlike the three-branch trines that combine into a single element, the two-branch hexes amplify their existing energies through partnership. Classical doctrine reads hexes as the most-watched favourable register for partnerships, contracts, and any consultation requiring two parties to align — the configuration supports cooperation, mutual benefit, and stable alliances.
The branch hexes register is one of five classical interaction patterns (沖合刑害) that BaZi practitioners look for when reading a chart. The other four are clashes (沖), trines (三合), hexes (六合), penalties (三刑), and harms (六害). A complete chart reading identifies all activated configurations across the four pillars and reads them in the context of the Day Master, the Useful God, and the luck-pillar transitions.
Frequently asked questions
What are BaZi branch hexes?
Six pairs of branches that bind together cooperatively when present in a chart. The classical 六合 register indicates partnership, mutual support, and harmonious cooperation. The classical 六合 register is one of the five branch-interaction patterns BaZi practitioners look for when reading a chart's four pillars (year, month, day, hour).
How many branch hexes are there?
6 classical branch hexes are recognised in the standard BaZi doctrine. Each is listed above with its branch combination, classical register, and link to the dedicated reference page.
Are branch hexes always good?
No. The default register is partnership, but the actual impact on a chart depends on which elements are involved, where in the chart they appear, what the Day Master needs, and which luck pillar is currently operating. Chart-aware reading is the only way to know whether a specific configuration helps or harms a specific chart.
