Important. Zodiac compatibility is the lowest-resolution tool in Chinese metaphysics — it reads one branch out of eight in your full BaZi chart. Sean’s position has always been the same: do not make relationship decisions on zodiac signs alone. Use this page for context, not as a verdict.
Rabbit archetype: graceful, tactful, conflict-averse and aesthetic. Rooster archetype: precise, observant, holds high standards. The two animals carry different defaults — refined energy meets exacting energy — and how those defaults play out depends on each person’s full chart, not on the year branch alone. The two archetypes can be complementary (one’s strength offsets the other’s shadow) or compounding (both shadows trigger each other), and the chart context decides which.
Five-Phase reading: Wood (Rabbit) meets Metal (Rooster) — Metal controls Wood (counter cycle). This is one ingredient in the classical reading, not the whole answer; the branch relationships above (Harmony, Clash, Harm, Destruction, Punishment) carry more weight in practice.
Rabbit (卯) and Rooster (酉) sit on directly opposing positions of the 12-branch wheel — this is 六沖 (Six Clash), the most-cited classical “incompatible” pairing. The opposition isn’t arbitrary moralism; it reflects that the two branches push in genuinely opposite directions on element, season, and direction simultaneously. The classical reading: friction between the two by default. Whether that friction is destructive or generative depends entirely on how the rest of each chart stacks — a point this page returns to below.
The honest take. Two real people, both Rabbit-and-Rooster, can have completely different relationships — one couple thrives, the other splits up — because the year branch is just one of eight characters in a BaZi chart. The other seven characters (Day Master, the other three pillars, the Ten Gods present, the chart structure, the active 10-year luck phase) decide far more about how two people actually fit. I’ve been saying this for fifteen years and I’ll keep saying it: zodiac alone is the lowest-resolution lens we have. Use it to break ice at a dinner; do not use it to decide whether to marry, hire, or break up with someone.
What zodiac compatibility is useful for: a quick “classical default” reading on one specific layer (the year branch). What it is not useful for: predicting the actual quality of any specific relationship. For that you need both full BaZi charts read against each other — structures, useful gods, 10-year phases, the Ten Gods that surface between the two day pillars. A 1:1 consultation reads both charts properly. The BaZi Bootcamp teaches you to do the synthesis yourself.
One more time, because it’s the whole point of this page. Rabbit-and-Rooster as a pairing tells you almost nothing about whether two specific people will get along, last, or fall apart. The default classical reading at the year-branch layer is exactly what it says: a default. Real compatibility analysis needs both full BaZi charts, both Day Masters, both useful gods, and where each person currently sits in their 10-year luck phase. Use this page as orientation; for the real answer, book a 1:1 consultation.
