In classical doctrine, a planet in its own domicile acts according to its essential nature without being filtered through a host. Mars in Aries is the lesser malefic in the cardinal-fire sign that he himself rules — the planet of cutting, contest, and burning is hosted by the sign of initiation, the spring equinox, the moment when light overtakes darkness.
